Specimen Requirements
Collect:  One gold gel 5.0 mL (also acceptable: plain red 6.0 mL)
and 2 lavender(EDTA) 3.0 mL
Transport:  1.0 mL (min 0.5 mL) serum, refrigerated for B12
1 lavender (EDTA)tube, whole blood, frozen for the RFOL
1 lavender(EDTA) tube, whole blood, refrigerated for the Hematocrit

Separate serum from cells ASAP.

Submit a separate aliquot for each test requiring a frozen specimen
Unacceptable Conditions:  Hemolyzed samples may be rejected depending on the level of hemolysis.
Frozen specimen for hematocrit.
Unfrozen specimen for RBC folate.
Stability:  Ambient: EDTA Whole Blood 3 hrs, Serum 24 hrs / Refrigerated: EDTA Whole Blood 24 hrs, Serum 7 days / Frozen: EDTA Whole Blood and Serum 14 days
